Where do you draw inspiration for your projects?
Inspiration comes from everywhere for me. We live in an age where all of our senses are stimulated and engaged 24/7, and being a keen observer allows you to absorb all that surrounds you. Since I was a little girl, I have pulled pages from fashion and home magazines, collected things from nature and crafted clothing and home-wares from bits and pieces. Everything I gather stimulates a new direction in design with renewed energy.
Where do you get your art fix?
I’m a regular visitor to the Art Gallery of NSW, the MCA, the Brett Whitely Gallery in Surry Hills and MONA in Hobart. I recently enjoyed visiting a number of galleries on Hollywood Road, Hong Kong, and must say that it’s always a priority to visit galleries wherever I am in the world.
What design trends are you loving at the moment?
I am loving the dominance of stimulating colour palettes with a predominance of yellow and blue, patterns with an emphasis on historic designs and motifs, and tactile textures on wallpapers and fabrics. Teaming the neutral palette with pops of colour is also very effective. Its fantastic that crafts such as jumbo knitting, crochet and sewing are so popular too, and are very present in home-wares. Another exciting trend is that men are getting more of a ‘look-in’ with design elements, which enables an equilibrium in the home.
What are your top 3 travel destinations?
Vietnam, Tasmania and, of course, Paris.
What are your tips for beautiful hair?
I have been using Aveda products exclusively for many years, and can’t go past them. The Aveda mission ‘to care for the world we live in’ is one that I choose to support and celebrate. Using Aveda sustains the quality of my hair, and keeping regular appointments at Luc Espace, with my wonderful colourist Courtney and stylist Janelle, ensures healthy and beautiful hair as does eating well, keeping fit and getting plenty of sleep.
